Bach Medal for Reinhard Goebel

Reinhard Goebel was honoured with the Bach Medal 2017 during Bachfest Leipzig on June 17th. Since 2003, this prize is awarded to musicians with exceptional merits around Bach's music. Previous winners of the Medal are well-known artists such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Ton Koopman, Helmuth Rilling and Herbert Blomstedt.

Highlights of the 15/16 season

For Reinhard Goebel, the 15/16 season brings many exciting encounters with friends old and new. He will make further welcome returns to conduct the Dresden Staatskapelle and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. Other engagements include the Academy of Ancient Music, the Nürnberger Ratsmusik, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Bern, and tours with the Noord Nederlands Orkest, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the bayerischen kammerphilharmonie. Furthermore, he is setting up a baroque festival with the Slovenian Philharmonic and recording the Brandenburg Concertos with the Berliner Barock Solisten.

Reinhard Goebel - successor to Harnoncourt at Salzburg Mozarteum

Reinhard Goebel has been professor of baroque violin at the Mozarteum in Salzburg since 2010. In June 2015 he was officially appointed successor to Nikolaus Harnoncourt as chair of period performance practice. Nikolaus Harnoncourt says of the decision, "Salzburg can count itself lucky to have authorities such as Reinhard Goebel teaching there."
